We cannot pray for peace but promote division.” – H.E. Prof. James Wani Igga

JUBA, September 21, 2026 – The Vice President of the Republic and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, H.E. Prof. James Wani Igga, attended the Prayer and Fasting for Peace in South Sudan event at All Saints Cathedral in Juba, bringing a message of hope and unity from President H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Addressing the congregation ahead of the country’s historic general elections in December 2026, Prof. Igga delivered a powerful call to action:

Urged South Sudanese to drop anger and revenge, renew their commitment to peace, and truly forgive one another.

Emphasized that fasting and prayer must lead to a change of heart, behavior, and culture—pointing out that we cannot ask God to heal our nation while refusing to forgive our neighbors.

Reminded leaders and citizens to show deep compassion for widows, orphans, displaced families, and all those longing for stability.

Stressed that peace is the shared responsibility of the church, government, security organs, civil society, and international partners.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray… then I will hear from heaven and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Organized by the South Sudan Council of Churches, the moving event brought together senior government officials, faith-based leaders, and the public to seek divine intervention and lasting peace for our nation.
